Art Deco Style - 1223 Liberty Street The Barrow Civic Theater

Our beautiful Art Deco style Barrow-Civic Theater shows the sharp, angular surface forms and ornaments characteristic of the style. Those strong horizontal ornamental lines and alternating dark and white squares within squares stacked vertically on a monumental shield centering the facade, say it all.

This decorative style, stimulated by the Paris Exposition International des Arts Decoratifs et Industrielles Modernes of 1925, became widely used in the architecture of the 30’s, including skyscraper designs such as the Chrysler Building in New York.
